The Electrician Foundation Certificate is a one-year, full-time program at Okanagan College for students with little or no prior experience in the electrical trade. It prepares graduates to seek employment as apprentice electricians by covering the fundamentals of residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems in line with British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education program guidelines. Instruction is delivered on campus, days, over approximately 24 weeks. Okanagan College offers the program at its Kelowna, Vernon, and Penticton trades facilities, with intakes scheduled across the academic year at each campus. On successful completion, graduates receive credit toward Level 1 technical training in the Construction Electrician apprenticeship program, allowing them to continue toward Red Seal certification through further work-based apprenticeship. The program suits students without an existing employer sponsor who want a structured, classroom-based entry point into the electrical trade before progressing to on-the-job apprenticeship hours.
