Trades - Apprenticeship in Landscape Horticulturist Apprenticeship

The Landscape Horticulturist Apprenticeship at Olds College is a four-year Alberta apprenticeship leading to an Advanced Diploma and eligibility for the Alberta Journeyperson Certificate. Each year combines eight weeks of on-campus classroom instruction with a minimum of 1,260 hours of on-the-job training. Students gain hands-on experience in botany, landscape design, machinery operation, basic surveying, irrigation, horticulture marketing, and greenhouse production, building the practical skills needed to work in the landscape and horticulture trade. Admission follows Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training structure: applicants must meet trade-specific eligibility and entrance requirements and complete an online apprenticeship application through the MyTradesecrets service; candidates are encouraged to find a sponsor and employer to earn on-the-job training hours, though classroom attendance is possible before securing sponsorship. Classroom instruction is offered across several intake periods each year rather than a single term.
