Overview
This program leads to a Bachelor of Science (Honours) over four or five years, delivered in-class at the North Oshawa campus, and is accredited by the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission. It combines a general science foundation in biology, chemistry, and physics with forensic coursework and hands-on training at facilities including a Crime Scene House, a Forensic Ecology Research Facility, and a Forensic Teaching Laboratory, covering crime-scene documentation, evidence collection, scientific report writing, DNA extraction, blood-stain pattern analysis, and testifying in mock court cases through partnerships with local law-enforcement and forensic agencies. At the end of first year, students choose a specialization elective stream in Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, or Forensic Physics. The program includes a capstone, research study, and undergraduate thesis, and a Bachelor of Science and Management (Honours) pathway is available in the upper years. It suits students aiming at forensic examiner or forensic laboratory careers.

Admission Requirements: Ontario Tech University states no admission requirements specific to Forensic Science beyond the OSSD prerequisites it lists and its general English proficiency policy. Applicants need the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U/4M credits, including English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and two of Biology (SBI4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) or Physics (SPH4U), plus a combined minimum 70 per cent average in the prerequisite math and science courses; the program recommends taking all four of MCV4U, SBI4U, SCH4U and SPH4U. Admission is competitive: last year's cut-off was 70 per cent and the expected cut-off sits in the low 70s, so meeting the minimums does not guarantee a seat. Applicants whose first language is not English must present, within two years of the intake, IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, Duolingo English Test 120, PTE Academic 58, CAEL 70 with no band below 60, Cambridge English Advanced 180 with no band below 170, or Oxford ELLT 7, or an IB Diploma or certificate with a minimum grade of 4 in English A, per the university's general admission requirements. The program begins each September.
