Overview
The Bachelor in Forensic Identification (BFI) at Laurentian University is a completion degree exclusively for active or retired Canadian police officers and civilian members of Canadian police services who hold certification as Forensic Identification Officers. It is the only program of its kind in North America. The curriculum combines online e-learning coursework with intensive one-week practicums delivered at police colleges, allowing officers to tailor course selection to their service's needs and their own interests. The degree requires 90 credits in total; certified officers receive a guaranteed minimum of 42 credits in advanced standing for their prior police training, leaving 48 additional credits to complete through the program. Practicums apply e-learning knowledge to hands-on casework and are worth three credits each. Delivery is hybrid, combining online study with in-person practicum sessions.
