This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science over four or five years, delivered in-class at the Downtown Oshawa campus, focused on policy creation, social justice and community development at scales from neighbourhoods to nations. The interdisciplinary curriculum draws on political science, sociology, public policy, history, communication and digital media studies, philosophy, legal studies and economics, covering topics including climate change, community development, international relations, and social movements. Optional specializations include Business and Society, Economics (Political Science), and Global Studies. Students may pursue a double major with Legal Studies, completing degrees in both subjects within four years. A direct-entry co-op option offers full-time, paid work terms throughout the degree. It suits students aiming at careers in public policy, government, international development, advocacy, or further study including law school.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school students must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M courses, including English (ENG4U). Admission is competitive: last year's cut-off was 70 per cent and the expected cut-off sits in the low 70s, so meeting the minimums does not guarantee a seat. Applicants whose first language is not English must present, within two years of the intake, IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, Duolingo English Test 120, PTE Academic 58, CAEL 70 with no band below 60, Cambridge English Advanced 180 with no band below 170, or Oxford ELLT 7, per the university's general admission requirements. The program begins each September and January.
