Overview
This program leads to a Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) in the Video Games, Creative Industries and Society specialization, over four years, delivered in-class at the North Oshawa campus, and is offered within the Game Development and Interactive Media program. Coursework explores the creative, technical and social dimensions of video games, developing skills in game design, interactive technologies, programming, production and digital storytelling while examining how games shape culture, communities and media. Students work on hands-on projects and collaborative learning at the intersection of technology, creativity and culture, gaining experience designing games and interactive experiences for the creative industries. The program includes a capstone project and internship and venture-creation experiential-learning options. It suits students preparing for careers in game design, interactive media production or the broader creative-technology industries, or for founding their own studio.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario Tech University states no admission requirements specific to Video Games, Creative Industries and Society (BIT) beyond the OSSD prerequisites it lists for the Game Development and Interactive Media program and its general English proficiency policy. Applicants need the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U/4M credits, including English (ENG4U) at a minimum 60 per cent average, and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U) at a minimum 60 per cent, or Computer Science (ICS4U) at a minimum 70 per cent. Admission is competitive: last year's cut-off was 70 per cent and the expected cut-off sits in the mid-70s, so meeting the minimums does not guarantee a seat. Applicants whose first language is not English must present, within two years of the intake, IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, Duolingo English Test 120, PTE Academic 58, CAEL 70 with no band below 60, Cambridge English Advanced 180 with no band below 170, or Oxford ELLT 7, or an IB Diploma or certificate with a minimum grade of 4 in English A, per the university's general admission requirements. The program begins each September.
