The Master of Science in Materials Science, offered jointly by Ontario Tech University and Trent University, is an interdisciplinary program examining the properties of matter across physics and chemistry. Areas of study include nanotechnology, electronic materials, surface science, biomaterials and materials characterization. Students combine broad foundational coursework with specialized, faculty-supervised research. Instruction is delivered in-class at the North Oshawa campus, and the program is normally completed in about 24 months of full-time study, with entry in the September, January or May terms. Applicants require an honours BSc in chemistry, physics or engineering, or equivalent qualifications, and admission depends on the availability of a research supervisor in the applicant's area of interest. Graduates are prepared for research and technical careers spanning materials characterization, nanotechnology, and applied physical and chemical sciences.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold an honours BSc degree in chemistry, physics or engineering, or equivalent qualifications, with a minimum overall academic standing of a B (GPA of 3.0 on a 4.3 scale, or 73 to 76 per cent) and a minimum B average in the final two full-time years. Admission depends on the availability of a research supervisor willing to take on the applicant, and proof of English language proficiency is required for applicants whose first language is not English.
