Diploma in Addiction Counselling

The Addiction Counselling diploma is a two-year program that prepares students for careers supporting individuals, families, groups, and communities affected by addiction. Coursework combines theoretical knowledge with practical counselling skills, including work with multicultural and Indigenous populations. Students complete supervised practicum placements that provide direct experience in addiction treatment and community support settings. The program covers assessment, intervention, and case management approaches used in the addictions field. Graduates are prepared to work as addiction counsellors in treatment centres, community agencies, and other health and social service settings. The program begins in the fall term and runs through two consecutive academic years at Portage College.
