Apprenticeship Carpentry is a Red Seal trades program delivered in partnership with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) at Portage College's Lac La Biche Campus. Students must be registered AIT apprentices to enrol, and the program is organized into four technical training periods, each requiring successful completion of the previous period before progression. Instruction combines classroom theory with hands-on lab training covering framing, roofing, finishing, and cabinet-making. The program is delivered in person. Graduates who complete all four periods, alongside the required on-the-job hours tracked through AIT, work toward Red Seal certification and Journeyperson status as certified carpenters. Each technical training period carries a combined tuition and fee cost of $1,213.49, covering tuition, student association fees, a recreation fee, and materials/shop fees. Intake periods run on a staggered schedule across the year, with new periods starting in October and January; applications for each period remain open until seats are filled or the start date arrives.
