Electrical Engineering at Queen's University is a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering program offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering within Smith Engineering. Students are admitted through Smith Engineering's common first-year curriculum and are guaranteed placement in Electrical Engineering after first year. Coursework covers electric circuits and motors, electromagnetics, microelectronics, signal processing, communications, robotics and control, mechatronics, digital logic, and microprocessors, building on applied mathematics and physics. Students take part in lab work and design projects throughout the program, culminating in a fourth-year project-based Capstone course in which students propose, design, build, test, and present a complete engineering project. Technical electives are organized into streams such as biomedical engineering, communications and signal processing, communications systems and networks, microelectronics and photonics, mechatronics, power electronics and systems, and robotics and control, which students may follow, combine, or design independently; streams are not shown on diplomas. An accelerated master's option allows upper-year students to begin graduate coursework before completing their degree. A Professional Internship option provides an optional paid industry placement.
