Program details
Overview
This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree through Queen's University's Classical Studies (CLST) Major Plan (CLST-M-BAH), offered by the Department of Classics and Archaeology. Students select from a broad spectrum of courses covering classical literature, culture, archaeology, history, mythology, humour, ancient science, and drama, together with the ancient languages of Greek and Latin. It is possible to complete a Classical Studies degree without taking Latin or Greek, though the department recommends studying at least one of the classical languages. The Major plan is combined with a Major or Minor plan in another subject and, with sufficient electives, leads to the 120.0 units required for the Honours degree; a related Minor (CLST-Y) and a Joint Honours option are also available within the department. Full plan and course requirements are set out in the Faculty of Arts and Science Calendar. The program suits students drawn to the ancient Mediterranean world across literature, history, and material culture, and it provides a foundation for further study or careers in fields such as archaeology, museum work, teaching, and research.
