Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Red Deer Polytechnic is a four-year, full-time degree delivered in-person at the main Red Deer campus, offered collaboratively with the University of Alberta: students complete years one through three at Red Deer Polytechnic and their fourth year at Red Deer Polytechnic while registered with the University of Alberta. Coursework covers human anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, health assessment and nursing processes, pharmacology and medication administration, acute and community health nursing, evidence-informed practice and research literacy, and leadership, ethics, and professional practice. Clinical placements take place in urban and rural healthcare settings across Central Alberta, requiring travel to regional sites, with clinical experiences that may include day, evening, and weekend shifts. The program suits students seeking registration as a nurse who are prepared for a collaborative degree structure and variable clinical scheduling across the region. Graduates are eligible to write the NCLEX-RN examination to become a Registered Nurse, and may go on to roles such as critical care nurse, occupational health nurse, nurse educator, nurse practitioner, informatics nurse, or positions in nursing administration.
