Overview
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to BSc in Nursing (BScN) Transition Program is a one-year, part-time, blended program that allows practising LPNs to enter Year 3 of Red Deer Polytechnic's Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Students complete four courses, delivered mostly online with condensed in-person lab sessions at the Red Deer campus, covering Indigenous peoples in Canada, statistics and knowledge management, evidence-informed nursing practice, and nursing transition. Admission requires successful completion of a CLPNA-approved Practical Nurse program in Alberta, a current Alberta LPN practice permit, and 4,000 hours of clinical LPN practice within the last four years; admission is competitive, based on GPA ranking over the most recent 18 credits and, where required, a CASPer assessment. Completion of all four courses with a minimum 2.0 GPA guarantees progression into Year 3 of the BScN program, which is completed full-time and in person. The program is open to domestic applicants.
