The Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Certificate is a 26-week, full-time, blended program that prepares students to clean, sterilize, and prepare medical instruments and devices for reuse in hospital and healthcare settings. Coursework covers sterile processing practices, surgical instrument handling and assembly, microbiology and infection control principles, medical terminology and human anatomy, and professional healthcare communication. Admission requires specific English Language Arts grades or a qualifying Accuplacer test score, valid within two years of the program start date; Science 20 or Biology 20 are recommended but not required. Students must meet health and safety requirements, including immunization standards, for clinical and practicum placements. The program runs with Winter and Spring intakes at Red Deer Polytechnic and is open to domestic applicants only.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is offered to qualified applicants as space allows. Applicants must have 50% in ELA 30-1 or 65% in ELA 30-2, or a passing score on the Accuplacer Test (minimum 250 on Reading, 250 on Writing, and 5 on the WritePlacer Essay), valid within two years of the program start date. Science 20 or Biology 20 are recommended but not required. Equivalent courses are accepted to meet admission requirements.
