Overview
The University Sciences Diploma at Red Deer Polytechnic is a two-year program that builds a foundation in the sciences for students planning to transfer into a Bachelor of Science program or professional programs requiring two years of undergraduate science. Core coursework covers cell biology, biodiversity and evolution, general and organic chemistry, calculus, physics, statistics and biochemistry, plus five senior-level biology electives such as microbiology, genetics, ecology, anatomy or physiology. Students can also take electives in English, humanities, social sciences, Indigenous studies and wellness. Delivery is on-campus. The diploma follows Transfer Alberta pathways, letting students move into the final two years of a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences or transfer to partner universities, including the University of Alberta and University of Calgary, after one or two years of study. Graduation requires 60 course credits and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00, with at least a "D" in every course. The program suits students exploring different science pathways before committing to a specific degree.
