Overview
The Visual Art Diploma at Red Deer Polytechnic is a two-year, on-campus program covering drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and 2D/3D design, alongside art history from the Renaissance to contemporary Canadian art. Students work in dedicated studios, including a bronze foundry, with 24/7 access during the academic year, and build a portfolio intended for further study or entry into the creative sector. The program includes work-integrated learning through community art projects and an annual Visual Art Showcase exhibition at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery. RDP holds a transfer agreement with Portage College, and up to 20 course equivalents can transfer to institutions such as the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, Alberta University of the Arts, NSCAD University and Emily Carr University of Art + Design. The diploma can also ladder into RDP's Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies. Students must pass all 25 courses (63 credits) and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 to graduate.
