Red River College Polytechnic's ASL-English Interpretation program builds fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) alongside Deaf history and culture and interpreting theory, with practice interpreting both in class and in the field. The three-year, full-time program is delivered at the Notre Dame Campus in Winnipeg with a Fall intake. Students study cultural differences between Deaf and hearing communities, ethical decision-making, and the communication and cognitive skills required for interpreting across Deaf and hearing settings. Graduates are prepared for entry-level interpreting roles in K-12 schools, colleges, businesses, and social services, and to sit the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) Generalist Knowledge Exam. Applicants with a criminal record or listed on the Child Abuse Registry or Adult Abuse Registry may not be able to complete the program. It leads to a diploma credential.
