Automotive Technician is a one-year certificate program providing an understanding of the construction, operation, and service of automobile component parts and assemblies. Students develop skills to disassemble, inspect, diagnose, and repair motor vehicle systems including engines, brakes, steering, suspension, and electrical systems, with most training conducted in Red River College Polytechnic's auto mechanics workshop. Admission requires Grade 12 graduation or enrolment in Grade 12 with credits in Grade 12 English, Grade 12 Math, and Grade 10 Science, or equivalent standing as a mature student. The program begins each September and is open to Manitoba residents. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in automotive service and repair, applying practical workshop training to real vehicle diagnostics and maintenance.
