Overview
This post-graduate diploma prepares practising Primary Care Paramedics for Advanced Care Paramedic certification, following the national occupational competency profile for Advance Care Paramedicine. It consists of seventeen courses delivered over 28 months across seven academic terms, combining online academic coursework with in-person instruction and clinical and field placements across rural Manitoba and Winnipeg, under a blended delivery model. The program is based at the Notre Dame Campus in Winnipeg, runs as a funded program, and is restricted to Manitoba residents. It is designed for licensed Primary Care Paramedics who want to progress to advanced care paramedicine rather than entry-level candidates without existing paramedic certification, and graduates are prepared to work as Advanced Care Paramedics within Manitoba's emergency medical services system.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a Primary Care Paramedic Certificate from a Canadian Medical Association accredited training program and submit proof of six credits of acceptable Human Anatomy and Physiology courses with a lab component, with a minimum grade of C+ required in each course (this may be completed as a co-requisite while enrolled). Two years of full-time experience as a Primary Care Paramedic with direct patient care, verified through the Verification of PCP Work Experience Form, is required. The program is a funded seat program restricted to Manitoba residents. The English language requirement is met by three years of full-time secondary education completed in Canada, the United States, or an ELR-exempt country where English was the language of instruction; otherwise applicants must achieve IELTS Academic overall 7.0 (no band below 6.5), CAEL Online/In-Person overall 70 (Writing 60), CELBAN 8L/8S/8R/7W, or TOEFL iBT overall 4.5 (no less than 4.0 per component, current scale). A Criminal Record Check, Provincial Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, required immunizations, and a completed Applicant Declaration Form are also required.
