Overview
The Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Informatics (GDBI) at Queen's School of Computing is a four-month professional graduate program applying AI and big-data methods to healthcare, running from May to August. Students complete four core courses (12 credit units): Programming for Biomedical Data, Biomedical Data Analysis, Biomedical Data Mining and Applications, and Medical Imaging Informatics, with a pass in Programming for Biomedical Data required to continue. The Diploma uses a ladder approach: graduates may continue directly into the one-year Master's in Biomedical Informatics (MBI), which adds two elective courses from the School of Computing and Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences plus a supervised biomedical informatics research project between September and April. No prior coding background is required, as the necessary skills are taught within the program, and projects are supervised by active research faculty spanning computing and biomedical sciences.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires a BSc (Honours) in biology, life sciences, biochemistry, computer science, biostatistics, engineering, or a related field, a minimum B+ average in third- and fourth-year courses, and at least one academic reference. Applicants must demonstrate strong interest in computational and quantitative methods applied to biomedical problems; the program welcomes both recent undergraduates and graduates of professional programs such as medicine or nursing.
