Overview
Medical Laboratory Sciences is a 28-month advanced diploma preparing Medical Laboratory Technologists to collect, prepare, and analyze blood, body fluid, and tissue samples across five laboratory disciplines: clinical chemistry, hematology, histology, clinical microbiology, and transfusion science. The first year and a half consists of theoretical and practical coursework delivered in a blended format combining face-to-face and online instruction, with mandatory on-campus labs at the Notre Dame Campus in Winnipeg, followed by a full year of clinical practicum placements in diagnostic laboratories throughout Manitoba. Because the program is funded, it is open to Manitoba residents only. Graduates are eligible to challenge the national certification exams of the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and are prepared for careers as medical laboratory technologists within hospital and diagnostic laboratory settings.
