Overview
Science Laboratory Technology is a two-year diploma that develops the applied skills needed to work in professional scientific laboratory settings. The first year covers foundational laboratory techniques, chemistry, biology, and quality principles common to all students, followed by a second year in which students choose one of three specializations: Cell & Microbiology, Chemistry & Quality Analyst, or Quality Assurance. The program includes a co-op work-integrated learning component that gives students applied laboratory experience. Delivered full-time at the Notre Dame Campus in Winnipeg with a September intake, the curriculum combines classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory work. Graduates find employment as laboratory technologists in fields such as chemical analysis, research, quality assurance, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, working in industrial, government, and healthcare-related laboratories across Manitoba and beyond.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires proof of graduation from, or current enrolment in, Grade 12 with one credit in each of Grade 12 English (40S), Pre-Calculus or Applied Math (40S), Biology (40S), and Chemistry (40S); applicants still enrolled must submit official final grades by July 15 for fall enrolment. Mature applicants aged 19 or older who have been out of high school for at least one year may qualify by completing the same four Grade 12 courses. Applicants who completed at least three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the United States, or another English Language Requirement (ELR) exempt country where English was the language of instruction meet the English requirement directly; others must meet an approved English language assessment option at the program-specific level. Required documentation must be submitted within 15 days of applying, or within 5 days if applying within six weeks of the program start date.
