Overview
Indigenous environmental leadership builds on your existing knowledge of Indigenous environmental stewardship.
This pathways program brings together experiential learning, theory and practical fieldwork skills and leads to degree programs in environmental practice.
You’ll learn about environmental management, and Indigenous science and leadership from both an Indigenous and settler perspective, as well as Indigenous-community based practices of environmental stewardship, ecology, environmental monitoring, leadership, communications and sustainable development.
You’ll spend time learning from guest speakers, Indigenous environmental professionals, case studies and most importantly - through sharing knowledge with your cohort.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Standard admission requires graduation from a recognized secondary school or comparable senior high school and that the applicant identify as Indigenous from the lands now called Canada, with limited exceptions for non-Indigenous applicants working for Indigenous organizations. Flexible admission assesses skills, knowledge and background gained outside traditional education, normally requiring at least two years of relevant environmental experience, paid or volunteer. Required documents include a personal statement of at least one page and, for flexible admission, a reference letter and detailed resume; no minimum GPA is stated. English-language proficiency defers to Royal Roads' general first-year-entry requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum 20 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Application Deadline:Royal Roads University sets no single university-wide deadline: domestic and international applicants apply directly to the university through the same process, and every programme page checked shows one identical deadline for both. RRU consistently closes a programme's application exactly three calendar months before that programme's own intake start date — a September 2027 intake typically closes 7 June 2027 — though a few programmes (the Master of Global Management, for example) use a six-month lead instead. Each programme lists its own upcoming intakes, running from 2026 into 2028 depending on the programme, and RRU says it may still accept a late application if space and processing time remain, but it publishes no separate international deadline and no institution-wide equal-consideration or rolling policy. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
