Program details
Overview
This program, offered on campus or in a blended format, connects students with pressing issues such as climate pollution, biodiversity loss, and reconciliation while building strategic decision-making and systems-thinking skills. It shares core coursework with the related Master of Science in Environment and Management, differing mainly in elective choices, and prepares graduates for sustainability roles across government, industry, and non-governmental organizations. The blended option pairs online courses, taken one at a time over about 10 weeks each at roughly 10 hours of work per week, with two three-week residencies and one two-week residency on Royal Roads' ocean-front campus, while the on-campus option is studied entirely in person. Either way, the program opens with a required non-credit course on academic integrity.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.00 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: Standard admission requires completion of a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum GPA of 'B' (3.00/4.33), and at least two years of relevant work or volunteer experience; applicants meeting the degree but not the GPA requirement must complete the non-credit Academic Writing and Critical Thinking course with a passing grade. Flexible admission is available with normally six years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, plus the same writing-course requirement. Students pursuing the MSc track must hold a science-focused undergraduate degree. The programme page defers non-native English speakers to Royal Roads' institution-wide requirement: for graduate-level entry, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum of 24 in writing and 20 in listening, reading and speaking. Applicants must submit official transcripts, a personal statement, two letters of reference, and a résumé; international applicants require a credential evaluation.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Royal Roads University sets no single university-wide deadline: domestic and international applicants apply directly to the university through the same process, and every programme page checked shows one identical deadline for both. RRU consistently closes a programme's application exactly three calendar months before that programme's own intake start date — a September 2027 intake typically closes 7 June 2027 — though a few programmes (the Master of Global Management, for example) use a six-month lead instead. Each programme lists its own upcoming intakes, running from 2026 into 2028 depending on the programme, and RRU says it may still accept a late application if space and processing time remain, but it publishes no separate international deadline and no institution-wide equal-consideration or rolling policy. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
