Overview
A fully online graduate certificate made up of the three core courses of the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, intended for people who approach complex problems by working across disciplines rather than within one. Students build a foundation in critical thinking across disciplines, in multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary frameworks, in social science research methods and in academic writing. Because delivery is entirely online, students can study from anywhere alongside a cohort of working professionals drawn from a wide range of careers, with courses combining assigned readings, synchronous or asynchronous lectures, interactive discussion and individual and team assignments. Learning outcomes are shaped largely by course selection. The certificate stands alone, or its credits carry forward into the Graduate Diploma or the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.33 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: Standard admission requires completion of a four-year (or comparable) undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a minimum GPA of 'B+' (3.33/4.33), normally with at least three years of professional experience. Flexible admission allows applicants to be assessed on skills, knowledge and background developed outside traditional learning structures. The programme page defers to Royal Roads University's institution-wide English language requirement for applicants whose first language is not English or who were not educated in English: for third-year-entry and graduate programs, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with a minimum 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading, or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with a minimum 24 in writing and 20 in listening, reading and speaking. Applicants also submit official transcripts, a two-page personal statement, a detailed résumé and two letters of reference.
Application Details
Start Date:January and September
Application Deadline:Royal Roads University sets no single university-wide deadline: domestic and international applicants apply directly to the university through the same process, and every programme page checked shows one identical deadline for both. RRU consistently closes a programme's application exactly three calendar months before that programme's own intake start date — a September 2027 intake typically closes 7 June 2027 — though a few programmes (the Master of Global Management, for example) use a six-month lead instead. Each programme lists its own upcoming intakes, running from 2026 into 2028 depending on the programme, and RRU says it may still accept a late application if space and processing time remain, but it publishes no separate international deadline and no institution-wide equal-consideration or rolling policy. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
