Program details

Overview

This two-year diploma prepares students for careers in transport and heavy equipment maintenance and repair, delivered in person at SAIT's Main Campus with some online coursework. The curriculum combines classroom instruction with hands-on shop training in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, covering diagnosis, installation, maintenance, and repair of transport vehicles and off-road heavy equipment. An optional work-integrated learning placement runs between the second and third semesters. The program aligns with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training curriculum for Heavy Equipment Technicians, and graduates are eligible to challenge the related technical training exams and register as apprentices toward a journeyperson designation. Graduates work across construction, oil field support, forestry, mining, marine, transportation, and agriculture. The program accepts international applicants and meets Post-Graduation Work Permit eligibility requirements.
