Overview
Geographic Information Science is a 32-week certificate from Saskatchewan Polytechnic that trains technicians to link maps to digital data using geographic information system (GIS) technology. Delivered from the Prince Albert campus, the program is offered both in person and online, with an August intake for each delivery option, and combines hands-on and field-based learning with applied research projects. Coursework includes UAV and drone data processing, GPS, web mapping, and remote sensing, supported by industry partnerships that give students real-world project experience. Admission requires Grade 12 completion with a minimum 65 percent in a 30-level English Language Arts course and a minimum 60 percent in Workplace and Apprenticeship Math 30, Foundations of Math 30, or Pre-Calculus 30, along with Saskatchewan Polytechnic's English language proficiency requirement; applicants without these prerequisites may qualify through the ACCUPLACER placement test. Graduates work as GIS technicians, mapping cartographers, GPS operators, and data analysts across natural resources, municipal, First Nations, and environmental employers.

Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12 completion with a minimum 65 percent in a 30-level English Language Arts course and a minimum 60 percent in Workplace and Apprenticeship Math 30, Foundations of Math 30, or Pre-Calculus 30. Saskatchewan Polytechnic's institution-wide English Language Requirement also applies: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with 5.0 per component, TOEFL iBT 81 overall with 19 per skill, PTE Academic 63 overall with 50 per component, Duolingo English Test 110, or CAEL 60 overall with 50 per component. Applicants who do not hold these prerequisites may qualify through the ACCUPLACER placement test. Computer literacy is recommended.
