Overview
This two-year diploma builds skills for the design industry, covering industry-standard design software, design principles and aesthetic awareness, composition, typography and colour theory, photography and image editing, motion graphics, packaging and editorial design, user interface and user experience design, and screen printing and vinyl application. Instruction is hands-on, giving students access to current software, tools and equipment, and the program includes a four-week work experience placement in the graphic communications industry along with development of a professional portfolio. It runs 68 weeks (32 weeks in year one, 36 in year two), delivered on campus at the Regina campus, with a September intake. Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles in graphic design, print and digital media production, packaging and editorial design, and user interface and user experience design across advertising, marketing, publishing and design studio employers.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12, plus Saskatchewan Polytechnic's institution-wide English Language Requirement (IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with 5.0 per band, TOEFL iBT 81 overall with 19 per skill, PTE Academic 63 overall with 50 per component, Duolingo English Test 110, or CAEL 60 overall with 50 per component). Applicants without the standard credential can qualify through ACCUPLACER, with minimum scores of 250 Arithmetic, 250 Reading and 245 Writing, or through 15 approved post-secondary credits. Admission is First Qualified/First Admitted, with applications opening September 1 annually for the September intake.
