Trades - Apprenticeship in Parts Technician

Parts Technician is a Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) registered trade, completed over a three-year, earn-while-you-learn term. Apprentices are employed in the trade and sign a contract of apprenticeship with their employer and the SATCC, developing most of their skills through supervised on-the-job training under a certified journeyperson. This workplace training is supplemented by required in-school technical training, delivered online by Saskatchewan Polytechnic, in blocks of eight weeks for level one, eight weeks for level two and six weeks for level three. Technical-training blocks combine trade theory and testing covering the sourcing, dispensing and sale of parts, accessories and equipment to dealerships and wholesale distribution centres across trade sectors including automotive, heavy truck, agricultural, industrial equipment and recreational parts. On completing all three years of on-the-job and in-school training, apprentices become eligible to write the examination for certification as an interprovincially recognized Red Seal journeyperson parts technician. Start dates for specific technical-training periods are set by the SATCC rather than published on the program page.
