Program details

Overview

This is an honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree delivered on Sault College's Sault Ste. Marie campus, structured as a four-year program comprising eight semesters. Coursework integrates nursing theory with foundational sciences such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and pharmacology alongside clinical practice in areas including medical-surgical nursing, mental health, obstetrics, pediatrics, and community health. Clinical placements begin in the program's first semester and continue throughout all four years, taking place in nursing homes, Sault Area Hospital, and other partner agencies, supplemented by simulation laboratories and small class sizes. Graduates who pass the national licensing examination become eligible to register with the College of Nurses of Ontario as Registered Nurses. Admission pathways include direct entry from an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum overall average and required senior courses in English, biology, chemistry, and mathematics, completion of the college's Pre-Health Sciences pathway program, or transfer from prior postsecondary study meeting minimum grade thresholds. The program suits students seeking professional nursing preparation with early and sustained clinical exposure rather than a delayed practicum model.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 75.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with a minimum overall average of 75% across one 4U English, one 4U Biology, one 4U Chemistry, one 4U Mathematics and two further 4U/M courses (highest two grades counted); the 75% need not be met in each individual course. Applicants may instead qualify by completing Sault College's Pre-Health Sciences — Pathways to Advanced Diplomas & Degrees program (3065) with a minimum 3.0 GPA, or by holding a minimum 2.8 GPA (or 70%) in the most recent year of postsecondary study together with the same four required 4U courses. Admission is competitive: meeting the minimum average or GPA does not guarantee an offer. International applicants and those whose prior study was not in English must meet Sault College's Bachelor of Science - Nursing language requirement of IELTS Academic 6.5. Applicants must fully disclose all prior postsecondary transcripts, and before clinical placement must hold Standard First Aid and CPR-BLS certification, WHMIS training, N95 mask fit testing, a Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Naloxone training, and up-to-date immunizations (TB, MMR, tetanus, varicella, hepatitis B, influenza, COVID-19).
