Plumbing involves the network of piping used to supply potable water and discharge sanitary waste, and the trade is regulated under Part 7 of the Ontario Building Code. Sault College delivers the in-school training for this five-year Plumber apprenticeship, the only college north of Toronto to do so. Training is organized into basic, intermediate and advanced levels, each scheduled as an eight-week in-school section delivered in the college's shops and classrooms at the Sault Ste. Marie campus. Instruction covers residential, commercial and industrial plumbing systems. Apprentices alternate these in-school sections with periods of on-the-job training completed with a sponsoring employer in the trade. Graduates of the apprenticeship may go on to work for mechanical contractors in residential, commercial or institutional settings. The program is open only to individuals already registered as Plumber apprentices with Ontario's Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
