Overview
The Community Support Worker (CSW) Associate Certificate is an option available only to experienced, employed learners. You can use effective interpersonal skills including active listening, collaboration, self-awareness and conflict resolution within multi-faceted roles and contexts. Engage in critical thinking, problem solving and reflective practice. Eligible students take six Education Assistant & Community Support Worker (EACSW) courses to receive their CSW Associate Certificate and they then have the opportunity to ladder into the EACSW regular certificate program if they choose to continue their education. After completing the EACSW requirements, graduates can then continue towards a second year in the Human Services Diploma, laddering into University Degree programs in Child and Youth Care, Social Work or Community Rehabilitation.

Admission Requirements: This associate certificate is open only to applicants already employed by a local community-living organization, with a minimum of three years of full-time-equivalent employment in the field. Academically, applicants need English 12 or equivalent with a minimum of 60%. No IELTS, TOEFL or other standardized language-test score is published; second-language applicants are handled under the college's general English-proficiency policy. A complete application requires a letter from the employer confirming current position and employment history, a current resumé, official transcripts from previous educational settings demonstrating the college-level English requirement (unless given special consideration), two letters of reference, and a 250-word statement explaining the applicant's interest in the program. Intake is Fall only. Eligible students take six Education Assistant & Community Support Worker courses toward this associate certificate and may later ladder into the full EACSW certificate.

Both domestic and international applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, or international applicants may instead apply directly to Selkirk with a $100 application package; admission stays rolling until seats fill.
