Overview
One-year Human Services Diploma at Selkirk College, completed as the second year of study following a related first-year certificate (Early Childhood Care and Education, Education Assistant and Community Support Worker, or Social Service Worker). The program prepares students to work in multi-disciplinary settings supporting children and youth, building interpersonal and professional skills through classroom instruction and supervised practicum placements in community agencies. Classes run at the Nelson campus with a single Fall intake each year. Admission requires completion of English Studies 12 or equivalent with a minimum 60%, and applicants who completed a qualifying certificate at Selkirk College within the previous five years are eligible for direct entry into the second year. Additional requirements include official secondary and post-secondary transcripts, a negative tuberculosis test or clear chest X-ray less than six months old, and a current criminal record check from the Ministry of Justice. Graduates receive a Human Services Diploma qualifying them for child- and youth-care roles across community and social-service settings.
