Overview
The Contemporary Music & Technology program trains musician performers for the commercial music industry. The curriculum includes individual instruction on guitar, voice, bass, drums, saxophone, violin, and keyboards, as well as a solid grounding in music theory and ear training. Individual and ensemble instruction and practice is offered throughout both years of the program. Rock, blues, jazz, folk and world music are the primary instructional styles.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Beyond Selkirk College's general admission requirements, this diploma requires completion of Grade 12 or equivalent with a minimum of 60% in English Studies 12. Admission is also gated by a three-part audition: a live or recorded demonstration on an accepted instrument (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, voice, saxophone, trumpet, banjo, mandolin or violin/fiddle), a music-theory exam covering intervals, key signatures and triads to roughly Royal Conservatory of Music Grade II level, and an ear-training test on pitch matching, triads, and rhythmic and melodic dictation. Remote auditions are accepted, with the theory and ear-training components invigilated and the performance component submitted as audio or video. Applicants who audition strongly but fall short on theory or ear training may be offered a two-week preparatory course each August, passable with a minimum final grade of 75%. No IELTS, TOEFL or other English-proficiency score is published. Applications are due by April 30, with auditions completed by May 31, ahead of the single annual Fall intake.

Both domestic and international applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, or international applicants may instead apply directly to Selkirk with a $100 application package; admission stays rolling until seats fill. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is competitive-entry with its own published timeline for the 2027/28 intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
