Program details

Overview

Selkirk College's Bookkeeping Skills Associate Certificate trains learners in foundational accounting and record-keeping for entry-level bookkeeping and administrative roles. The program is delivered fully online over six months and comprises five courses totalling 8.5 credits: an orientation course in online learner success, Bookkeeping I covering manual journal entries and financial statements, Payroll covering deductions, calculations and employer obligations, Bookkeeping II adding specialized journals and merchandising concepts, and a Computerized Accounting course built around Sage 50 software. Admission calls for English proficiency at the English Studies 11 level (or equivalent) and basic math at the Math 10 level (or equivalent), along with official transcripts; international applicants need an IELTS score of 6.0 overall. Students who complete the program receive an Associate Certificate.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: In addition to Selkirk College's general admission requirements, the Office Administration & Technology programme (which includes this Bookkeeping Skills Associate Certificate) asks for English Studies 11 with 60% or higher, or equivalent, and any Math 10 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 60%. International applicants must present an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, or an equivalent score on another recognised English-language proficiency test. Students who do not meet the Math or English levels may instead complete Selkirk's College Readiness Tool (CRT) to confirm their standing. A completed application form and official transcripts must be on file before the application is considered complete, and an in-person or telephone interview with the Program Coordinator may be required before entry, though interview results are not used as an admission criterion. Space permitting, students may be admitted up to the end of the first week of classes with instructor approval, and the program can be taken part-time subject to space and prerequisite limitations.
