Overview

Four-year honours degree preparing graduates for careers in early learning, family support services, early intervention and infant mental health, offered at the Newnham and King campuses. Classroom study in child development, mental health foundations, leadership and interprofessional collaboration is paired with four in-person field placements and a mandatory work term of at least 420 hours. Graduates are eligible to register as Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE) in Ontario.

Minimum GPA: 65.00 / %

Admission Requirements: Admission is based on an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or acceptance as a mature applicant, built on six Grade 12 U or M courses with a minimum overall average of 65%, including Grade 12 ENG4U at a minimum final grade of 65%; Seneca offers free upgrading courses for applicants below that level. International applicants must separately meet Seneca's general English-proficiency requirements, not detailed on this page. Before starting field placements, students must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check, current medical and immunization documentation (including a chest X-ray or tuberculin skin test), and a Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificate; international students also need a study permit authorizing on-campus work. Graduates of Ontario's Child and Youth Care or Early Childhood Education diplomas with a 65% GPA may apply for advanced entry.

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply through OntarioColleges.ca. For the September 2027 intake, OCAS opens for applications on 1 October 2026, the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, first offers go out from 1 November 2026, and the earliest confirmation deadline is 1 May 2027 with a CAD 200 deposit due the second Wednesday of June 2027. The January 2027 and May 2027 intakes opened on 1 October 2025 and carry no equal-consideration date, with earliest confirmation deadlines of 1 November 2025 and 1 March 2027. International applicants apply directly to Seneca, are assessed on a rolling basis with no fixed closing date, and are admitted up to the first day of classes or until a program fills, whichever comes first. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
