BA/BS in Early Learning

The Early Learning Minor is offered by the Faculty of Education for students who want to work with children aged three through eight and may be added to any degree program. The curriculum covers topics such as children's literature, language arts, and curriculum development for young learners. Students complete a lower-division course in developmental psychology as a foundation, followed by upper-division Education courses on early childhood education and curriculum and instruction for young children, together with further upper-division coursework in areas such as reading and elementary mathematics instruction. Students who receive credit for this minor cannot also receive credit for the early learning specialization within the Bachelor of General Studies program. As with all Simon Fraser University degree programs, students must also satisfy the university's writing, quantitative, and breadth requirements. The minor is intended for students planning careers or further study in early childhood education.
