Community and Justice Services is a two-year Ontario College Diploma at Sheridan College that prepares students for careers helping others within the justice system, viewed through a corrections and rehabilitation lens. Students explore social sciences including psychology, criminal law and criminology, and learn static and dynamic security techniques, correctional program development and implementation, crisis intervention and prevention, offender case management, and working with clients with addictions and mental illness. The program includes two field practicums in settings such as adult institutions, youth facilities, community agencies or residential facilities, preceded by a career-interest interview and required certifications including Standard First Aid. Graduates are prepared to work as correctional officers or in community agencies supporting the reintegration of offenders after release. The program runs on a standard two-academic-year schedule for a September start or a 16-month continuous schedule for a January start.
