Program details

Overview

Biomedical Engineering is an option within the Engineering Science program, leading to an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science, offered by the School of Engineering Science in the Faculty of Applied Science in collaboration with the School of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology. The program combines core engineering training with biomedical and physiological expertise, preparing students to work on technological solutions to medical and surgical challenges. The program is completed over nine academic terms plus a minimum of three co-operative education work terms, with at least two of the three work terms completed in industry. Foundational coursework spans mathematics, physics, chemistry, and engineering fundamentals, while biomedical-specific requirements are drawn from biomedical physiology and kinesiology and engineering science courses. At least two-thirds of the program's upper-division units must be earned through study at Simon Fraser University. Academic coursework is delivered on campus, alternating with mandatory co-operative work terms after the first year.
