The Environmental Chemistry minor, offered by the Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science, focuses on the chemical sciences that shape natural environments, covering general and organic chemistry together with the chemistry of water and the atmosphere. Students complete a required core of General Chemistry and Laboratory I and II, Introduction to Analytical Chemistry with laboratory, Inorganic Chemistry with laboratory, Organic Chemistry and Laboratory I, Introductory Instrumental Analysis, Analytical Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry of the Aqueous Environment, Chemistry of the Atmospheric Environment, and Instrumental Methods of Organic Structure Determination, plus at least one further course chosen from Special Topics in Analytical Chemistry, Introduction to Radiochemistry, or an equivalent advanced analytical course. The minor is completed alongside a bachelor's degree and does not carry separate admission requirements beyond those of the student's primary program.

Admission Requirements: This minor is declared after admission to Simon Fraser University; the calendar states no separate minor-specific GPA or admission average. General direct entry to the Faculty of Science requires 'a minimum of five approved academic Grade 12 courses' with 'a minimum grade of 70% or higher in Language Arts 11, English 12, or equivalent', 'All: Pre-Calculus 12', and at least two of Anatomy and Physiology 12, Calculus 12, Chemistry 12, or Physics 12. English-language proficiency follows SFU's general scale (IELTS Academic 6.5, no band below 6.0). To begin the minor's required chemistry sequence, students need 'Chemistry 12 with a minimum grade of B' or equivalent preparation through CHEM 109, 110, 111, or 120.
