Linguistics of Speech Science Certificate

Admission Requirements: Admission to SFU follows the university's general undergraduate requirements, and certificate program approval must additionally be obtained from the Department of Linguistics; an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for that approval, dropping to a required minimum of 2.40 for continuance once the student has completed 60 units. The certificate totals 18 units: three required courses — LING 190 (The Science of Speech), LING 330 (Phonetics) and LING 350 (First Language Acquisition) — plus three further courses chosen from LING 315 (Psychology of Language), LING 321 (Phonology), LING 322 (Syntax), LING 401 (Topics in Phonetics), LING 411 (Topics in Applied Phonetics) or LING 415 (Neurolinguistics). No English-language test score, interview or portfolio requirement beyond SFU's standard admission process is published for this certificate.
