Curriculum & Instruction - Place- and Nature-Based Experiential Learning: Master of Education (MEd) is a master's degree in Education & Teaching programme taught at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada. The programme runs for 2 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 3,411 per semester (CAD 3,411 per semester for local students).
This MEd helps practising educators weave place- and nature-based experiential learning into their teaching, covering the philosophical underpinnings of the approach while building outdoor technical skill and comfort through on-trail summer offerings. The cohort program comprises seven 5-unit courses over six terms across two years in a hybrid format: synchronous online classes in the fall and spring terms, and summer terms that combine online meetings with in-person field experiences on the Sunshine Coast and in Penticton in the Okanagan Valley, which students travel to each summer. Its themes are ecological knowledge, the braiding of holistic with Indigenous pedagogy, and social-emotional wellbeing. Because the on-trail terms are staged in those two regions, the cohort suits educators based in SD 46 (Sunshine Coast) and SD 67 (Okanagan Skaha) best.
