Overview
The Personal Support Worker program prepares graduates with the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, safe and supportive care to individuals across their lifespan, including clients experiencing cognitive impairment, physical disability, age and mental health challenges. Students will develop assessment and communication skills in order to identify and document pertinent information about their client’s health status. Students will learn to provide client-centred and client-directed care based on ethical principles, sensitivity to diverse client and family values, beliefs and needs, and follow the direction of the care plan.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires an OSSD with the majority of credits at College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level; mature applicants without an OSSD may write the College's admission tests. The programme page sets no language score of its own, so the institution-wide certificate-level English requirement applies: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 52, CAEL 60, CELPIP General 7.0 in each module, or Duolingo 110, within the last two years. Before clinical placement, students must hold current CPR Level C, Standard First Aid, a mask-fit test, and a Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance (valid six months), plus health-assessment documentation; most placement sites also require COVID-19 vaccination, though this is not a college-set condition. Domestic applicants apply through Ontario Colleges; international applicants through International OCAS.
