Overview
Program Overview The curriculum is comprised of theoretical and clinical experiences utilizing the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) conceptual framework and nursing process. This strong foundation prepares students to practice safely, competently and ethically in situations of health and illness with individuals, families, groups and communities across the lifespan. The overall program goals and objectives are aligned with the current CNO Entry to Practice Competencies for the Registered Practical Nurse. Program Highlights The program is fully accredited by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). Small, personal class sizes. Hands-on training in a state-of-the-art nursing lab with simulation technology. Peer mentorship and tutor support. Clinical placement experiences with an instructor every semester, in a hospital and/or community setting (hours vary based on semester) Comprehensive, clinical placement experiences with a preceptor in a hospital and/or community setting at the completion of the program (10 weeks in total). After successful completion of the Practical Nursing diploma program, graduates are eligible to write the REx-PN which is administered by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). Career Opportunities There are a wide variety of employment opportunities including hospitals, long-term care facilities, community health care agencies, physician offices and clinics, private homes and in private practice.

Admission Requirements: Entry requires an OSSD with the majority of credits at College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) level, plus Grade 12 English (ENG4U, ENG4C, EAE4C or EAE4U), Grade 12 Math, senior-level Chemistry and senior-level Biology at the College or University level, or equivalent courses from the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway or Academic and Career Entrance programme. Selection for this oversubscribed programme is competitive, ranking applicants on an average of Grade 11 and first-semester Grade 12 marks; the College recommends applying by February 1. St. Clair's Practical Nursing English-proficiency standard, one of the institution's higher-tier requirements alongside Bachelor's degrees, applies: IELTS Academic/General 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 91 with no section below 22, PTE Academic 70, CAEL 70, CELPIP General 8.0 in each module, or Duolingo 120, scored within two years; the programme page also notes the College of Nurses of Ontario requires fluency in written and spoken English. Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for programmes starting in Fall 2027 the online application opened on 26 September 2026, the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, colleges may start sending offers from 1 November 2026, and accepted offers are due by 1 May 2027; Winter 2027 entry has an equal-consideration date of 15 September 2026. St. Clair flags eight oversubscribed programmes and thirteen high-interest programmes for which it recommends applying by 1 February. After the equal-consideration dates, applications are assessed first-come, first-served while seats remain. International applicants apply through the International OCAS portal and are admitted on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis; St. Clair publishes no fixed international closing date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
