Overview

Human Nutrition at St. Francis Xavier University is a Bachelor of Science delivered in person through the Faculty of Science. The first year builds a scientific foundation in nutrients, food composition, and food-lab skills, paired with humanities and social science courses examining the behavioural and economic factors that shape food choices. From this base, students can pursue concentrations in dietetics, which leads toward an accredited practicum on the path to becoming a registered dietitian; health sciences, aimed at those considering further study in medicine or dentistry; food entrepreneurship; or food and society, which looks at food systems from a multidisciplinary perspective. Co-op work-experience terms are available within the program, and students may add a minor or pursue a fifth-year concurrent degree option in areas such as human kinetics or business. Hands-on laboratory and community-based research opportunities are built into the curriculum. The program suits students interested in nutrition and health who want a science-based degree with room to specialize toward dietetics, public health, food industry careers, or further professional study.
