Program details

Overview

Food Science & Nutritional Science is a four-year dual-degree program at McGill University in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, combining the disciplines of food science and nutritional science into two degrees awarded at graduation. Food science coursework covers food chemistry and the scientific principles of food preservation, processing, and packaging, including ingredient development aimed at improving taste, shelf life, and food safety. Nutritional science coursework covers the nutritional properties of food, metabolism, and the role of nutrition in health and disease. The program integrates both disciplines, training students to apply food science and nutrition knowledge together, and includes an industrial work placement (stage) for hands-on experience. McGill describes the program as unique in North America for combining these two disciplines into a single dual-degree track. Graduates are prepared for careers and further study in food science, nutrition, and related health and industry fields. Admission is through the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
