Admission Requirements: St. Thomas University's Master of Social Work admits through two entry points. The one-year stream requires a Bachelor of Social Work from a program accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on the university's 4.3 scale. The two-year stream requires a completed undergraduate degree (120 credit hours) in the social sciences from a recognized university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, plus SCWK 2013 Introduction to Social Welfare and SCWK 2023 Introduction to Social Work or equivalent course work; students in the foundation first year must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to progress to year two. Both streams require at least 1,500 hours, or one year full-time equivalent, of paid or volunteer social-work-related experience (field placements, practicums, co-ops and internships do not count), plus two MSW reference forms sent directly to the Admissions Office by the referee. Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit an official proficiency score; the programme page publishes no minimum, though St. Thomas's general standard is TOEFL 89, IELTS 6.5, MELAB 80, CAEL 60, Duolingo 115 or PTE 62+.
