The Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqey Bachelor of Social Work at St. Thomas University is an accredited social work degree directed at First Nation individuals from New Brunswick, Quebec, and the Maritime provinces who want to become social workers in their own communities. The program takes a new intake every three years and is built around a culturally relevant, flexible framework that reflects First Nation systems of knowledge and holistic worldviews. In recognition that many students are already employed or have family responsibilities, courses run one week per month from September to April over a two-year period, with two additional weeks of coursework in May and June; students complete a field placement in the third year. All coursework takes place on STU's Fredericton campus, giving students access to campus facilities and resources, with a discounted hotel rate available for those travelling from out of town. The program is overseen by a committee drawn from St. Thomas University, First Nations Child and Family Agencies, and student representatives from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and students have access to the Wabanaki Centre and STU's Indigenous Student Services team for cultural and academic support throughout their studies.

Applicants to the Bachelor of Education must apply by 1 December 2026, and Bachelor of Social Work applicants by 31 January 2027.
