The DESS en écodesign stratégique (Graduate Diploma in Strategic Ecodesign) at Université de Montréal is a 30-credit specialized postgraduate diploma offered jointly with Polytechnique Montréal. It integrates design, environmental engineering methods such as life-cycle analysis, strategic foresight and creativity management into a multidisciplinary approach to sustainable development in business. Courses are taken at the School of Design, at Polytechnique and at HEC Montréal, combining mandatory courses with electives. Students complete a professional ecodesign mission, supervised by professors from both partner institutions, in teams of two. The program is offered full-time or part-time with daytime classes, and the minimum full-time duration is two terms, with a maximum of four years (twelve terms) from initial enrolment. Graduates go on to strategic roles in business or positions such as project manager or innovation lead for sustainable product and service development in small and medium enterprises.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized Quebec, Canadian or international institution. The application must include two letters of recommendation, a curriculum vitae, and a letter of intent of up to 1,000 words describing the applicant's motivations; a portfolio of major accomplishments is additionally required from applicants with a design, architecture or urban planning background.
