Overview
Described by the university as a uniquely interdisciplinary program in North America, this doctorate addresses practical problems in human and social phenomena by drawing on more than one discipline at once. It is designed for students who wish to pursue a complex research question situated at the boundary between disciplines, using an interdisciplinary scientific approach centred on collaboration between fields of knowledge for concrete human benefit. The 90-credit Doctorat en sciences humaines appliquées emphasises originality and independence in research, preparing graduates to formulate and carry through interdisciplinary research projects addressing applied human and social problems. Students work under the direction of a supervisor and draw on the program's affiliated departments and interuniversity research centres while producing a doctoral thesis demonstrating interdisciplinary scientific rigour. It is delivered on campus at the Saguenay campus, with admission in the fall term.
